• MAINTAINING NEIGHBORHOODS AND INFRASTRUCTURE
As our councilman, Kurt has ensured that District 6 neighborhoods are maintained well. He's sped up the response time to residents' concerns, including rapid neighborhood street fixes and code enforcement problems. Additionally, Kurt advocated to earn Grand Prairie the distinction of being a Scenic City by the Texas Municipal League, joining only 91 other Texas cities in recognition of their city's high-quality standards. Looking ahead, Councilman Johnson is actively laying the groundwork to keep our neighborhoods attractive and widen main thoroughfares to reduce local traffic and provide safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
• LOWERING TAXES AND SMARTER CITY SPENDING
Councilman Kurt Johnson increased the homestead exemption for homeowners and supported two property tax reductions to ease the burden of skyrocketing tax bills. Kurt serves on the city's Finance and Government Committee, where he advocates for the most efficient use of your dollars to keep our city budget in balance.
• SMART AND STRATEGIC ECONOMIC
Kurt understands the necessity for action to ensure Grand Prairie remains a place for everyone to live, work, and visit. He is committed to keeping our local economy thriving with smart growth and long-term potential. In collaboration with fellow council members, Kurt has supported successful incentives that have attracted high-end entertainment and retail to Grand Prairie, creating new local jobs and bringing revenue dollars into our city.
• KEEPING OUR CITY SAFE
As Councilman, Kurt has worked with our police and firefighter departments to provide the support they need to keep us safe. He voted in favor of competitive salaries to retain our top-tier first responders and to purchase new resources that ensure transparency while prioritizing public safety and keeping officers on the street. Kurt has worked to expand participation in community engagement events, such as National Night Out, and strengthen neighborhood partnerships that create trust in the community.
